Came across "Friendly Dictators' by Dennis Bernstein and Laura Sydell from 1995. It's revealing. They list 42 human rights abuser the US government has been friendly with over the years, a number of them trained at the School of the Americas.

Of the 42 tere are 19 from Latinamerica and five from Europe--three since WWII (discounting Hitler and Franco). Some are household names, others rather obscure. The former are intriguing since they were eventually demonized when they became so brutal and corrupt that it couldn't be hid anymore. Hopefully Oliver Stone will read this and get some inspiration to do a sequel to "South of the Border". This would be a step towards demystifying foreign policy.
