Healthcare - La Cueva

One of the better things about the recently-passed healthcare bill is that it does not prohibit states from enacting their own healthcare systems. And, I'm happy to say progressives here in California are poised to pick up where we left off--getting a single-payer system to a Democratic governor. Twice SB 840 has passed both houses of the state legislature only to be vetoed by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Should Jerry Brown win, I sure hope he has some "Moonbeam" left in him; some think he's unpredictable these days...

Add Healthcare: One thing I have yet to hear discussed is any possible correlation between the increased hours worked by many Americans and increased healthcare costs. Working two or three jobs is more stressful than working just one. It also deprives people of vital sleep.

Still more on healthcare: Pushing for full-employment at a living wage should be a part of a healthcare movement, and those pushing for full-employment should play up the health benefits it would entail. I am a little disappointed Gary Null, who has a popular late night show on KPFK has not gone into this even though he often touches on this subject.

Last add on healthcare. Why isn't there more emphasis on physical activity on the job, or for creating new job that involve some measure of this? This seems like a healthy thing and breaks up the monotony as well. I'm not talking something gruelling, like digging ditches or unloading bananas like the longshoremen used to do, rather something like walking around the block, picking up something and carrying it across the room...moderate activity.
