Teacher
Lois Beckford has been teaching elementary grades for the past twelve years. She lives in Homestead, Florida with her family. Her hobbies are writing and playing tennis.
"The Interesting Pen Pal is a story about a boy who is anticipating his third grade year. Through his discussions of his second grade school writing activities, readers can experience how one teacher excited her students into becoming great writers and oral presenters."
This book includes a lesson plan and great resources for a complete writing program of writing and sharing.
"I always give my students opportunities to write and read text that interest them. I also encourage them to practice their writing skills and to read their writings to friends and family when possible." Effective communication skills will open many doors for success in the real world. It is important to read books of various genres as often as possible. Children should read books that are on their grade level or slightly above to challenge themselves and gain new vocabulary.
The benefits that come from effective written and oral communication can range from school success to becoming a community leader or even the president of the United States. As we have witnessed during presidential elections, potential leaders must convey thoughts clearly and confidently. I always say to my students: "Read, read, read and write, write, write every day, so that you will be successful in school and beyond." Our students need to realize early in their education that effective written and oral communication can take them far in life.
I encourage you to try this writing strategy. It will get your students excited about writing.
