I want to share some notes I took from a workshop of 2005 - El poder de la palabra liberadora
Gracias, Thank you Mr. Spencer Henry for your wonderful guidance
1. Screaming and yelling is disrespectful to the students.
2. Everyhting I do needs to be RESPECTFUL to bring me closer to the other.
3. A problem can become a teachable moment.
4. Act, don't react.
5. As teachers we need to learn that we do NOT need to have the last word. If you win the battle but you break the positive relationship and impact you have with the student, YOU'VE LOST THE WAR. What it is important is the quality of your words.
6. LEARN about the culture of your students.
7. Poverty children become the adult in the house, treat that student with RESPECT like an adult.
8. Do not spend more than 10 seconds with an confrontational student. Redirect, disengage quickly and deal with logical consequences later, when you and/or the student are not emotional, but rational.
