Blessed Be - Jody Lawson

Prologue

Three thousand years ago, on the outskirts of civilization there lived a small community called the Jesek. They were led by a group, of thirteen men and women known as the Siveth. The Siveth were the priests and priestesses of the Jesek. It was said that members of the Siveth are immortal and can wield magicks so strong that they can bend the minds of mortals to their wills. Valiah was the high priestess and one day a mystifying character appeared to her. At first she thought he was the third son of Salina, the moon goddess. He stayed with the Jesek for a while and soon demanded them to worship him alone. Now Valiah knew that for all his power he could be no god, for no god would demand that the balance between the worship of Salina and Tylien, the sun god, be lost. Once before had this been attempted and the consequences where horrific. Everyone knew that while the magick bestowed upon the worshipers of Salina balanced itself out, but the magick of those who worshiped Tylien was chaotic if not kept in check by the people of the night.

In an attempt to save her kind, Valiah betrayed her lover and began to seduce the powerful man. He gave her the second form of a wolf with silver fur. She convinced him to do the same for all her people, so the the priests of Tylien and their families he gave the forms of tigers, lions, bears, coyotes, and falcons. To the followers of Salina he granted five of them the graceful form of serpents and to their leader he gave the form of a cobra with the wings of a macaw. They then banded together and fought off the threat. They continued to live in peace for several years afterwards, when the priest of Tylien were caught trying to take control of the humans by causing chaos and war. They were stripped of all immortality and magick able to keep only their second forms. The children of Valiah soon followed them, magick intact. From the ones left a decision was made. They were the strongest creatures alive, equal to the vampyre, and they must protect humans. Almost three hundred years ago our kind was scattered by the church. We kept united and meet once a year on Samhain to celebrate our existence. Today is Samhain, and we meet again only this time my fate will be decided. A year ago I came out to the family, they weren't exactly okay with this but they accepted it since they didn't wish to lose their best hunter. This brought the abolishment of one rule. Tonight I am on trial for my life and my love. See, six months ago I met Logan, a senior at my high school (I was a junior then). The only problem is he is one of the vampyre. Normally I would have been put to death without a trial, but my sister is fighting hard to abolish the rest of the rules of our kind.

I hope we succeed, should they allow my life to be spared if these rules stand intact Logan will die. How can we convince the council he is not evil.

Blessed Be,
